Start with how you use the space
A driveway should accommodate the vehicles you actually park, door clearance and the route to your front door. Bring up trailers, delivery vehicles and future parking plans at the assessment. Turning space and usable width matter as much as the total square footage.
Build the scope from the ground up
A useful proposal separates excavation, unsuitable material removal, base preparation, forming, concrete placement, finish and curing. Existing pavement, restricted equipment access and changes to grade can affect both the price and sequence of work. Ask how the edge next to lawn or landscaping will be restored.
Choose a practical surface
A broom finish is a straightforward starting point for a residential driveway. Decorative borders or exposed aggregate change the appearance and maintenance requirements. Review texture, joints and transitions together, especially where the driveway meets the garage floor, walkway and public approach.
Know the access plan before work starts
Plan alternate parking and a safe path to the house during excavation and curing. Vehicle use should follow the project-specific release instructions, not just whether the surface looks dry. A new or modified connection to the public right-of-way may require an approach permit.

Can an existing driveway be widened?
Often the first question is whether the site can accommodate the extra width and runoff. Review property limits, utilities, landscaping and approach requirements before deciding on an extension.
Will all concrete look the same?
Color and texture vary with materials, weather and finishing. New concrete beside an older section will not necessarily match. Discuss whether a full replacement or deliberate border would create a more consistent result.
