Concrete Driveway Drainage & Slope Planning

Concrete driveway drainage and slope planning in Spokane should consider the garage, house, adjoining ground and where runoff can go before concrete elevations are set.

Explain the current problem

Describe where water collects and when: rain, snowmelt or irrigation. Note downspout outlets and nearby low areas. Ground-level photos during normal conditions can help; there is no need to enter an unsafe flooded area.

Consider the surrounding elevations

Doors, garage floors, existing pavement and neighboring grade constrain the layout. The plan should show how the new surface connects to them. A slope chosen without considering the outlet may move a puddle rather than solve it.

Separate slab work from drainage systems

A drain, underground piping or broader grading may be a separate scope with its own requirements. Ask who designs and installs it and where discharge is allowed. Avoid assuming water can simply be directed toward a street or neighboring property.

Check the proposal as a whole

Confirm finished elevations, intended flow direction and responsibility for any downspout or landscape changes. Drainage should be considered before excavation and revisited when site conditions become visible. It is easier to resolve these details before the concrete is placed.
